'Bizarre indie cameos'

Via the music site Idolator comes a compilation video someone has made consisting of "bizarre indie cameos" on an old American kids tv show, The Adventures of Pete & Pete. See how many you can spot (they're not all music related mind you).

It's not the only youth TV show that has pulled in unusual cameos over the years. The OC made appearances by indie bands a major selling point and of course quirky music performances are a staple of Sesame Street.

Here's a clip from an episode of the American comedy-drama Gilmore Girls. A brilliant array of leftfield musicians turned up in one episode for a running gag about nuisance buskers. Bonus points in my book for having Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth "jamming" with their daughter Coco. Take it away...

But my favourite youth TV show cameo comes from an episode of Beverly Hills 90210 way back when, with Flaming LIps performing their early 90s hit, "She Don't Use Jelly". Look out for the immortal line uttered by the character Steve Sanders, "You know, I've never been a big fan of alternative music but these guys rocked the house!"
